What we use, and what for

Two things, and both of them measure how this website is used. Neither shows you advertising, neither builds a profile to sell, and we do not share what they collect with anybody who is not listed below.

• PostHog — counts page views and presses, and records anonymised sessions, so we can see which parts of the site are read and where people give up. Every form field is masked before it leaves your browser.
• Microsoft Clarity — the same question asked a different way: a replay of how a page was scrolled and where a cursor hesitated. Also masked.

Cookies that are not a choice

A small number of cookies are what the site is made of rather than something added on top, so there is no switch for them and turning analytics off does not remove them:

• Signing in. Once you have an account, a session cookie is what keeps you signed in from one page to the next. Without it there is no way to be logged in.
• This choice itself (cq_cookies). Your answer has to be written down somewhere, or you would be asked again on every page. It stores one word — whether you said yes or no — and nothing else.

Where you are decides how we ask

In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, nothing analytical runs until you accept. The tags are not merely idle — they are absent from the page, and they only arrive once you have said yes.

Everywhere else, analytics are on when you arrive and this page is how you turn them off. That is the standard practice in those regions, and the switch above works the moment you press it.

Inside the app

Once you sign in, product analytics are part of the service rather than an optional extra, and they are covered by the Terms and Conditions you accept when you create an account. They are how we know which features are used, what breaks, and what to build next. The switch above governs these public pages; it does not turn off analytics inside your account, and no setting does — if you would rather not be measured there, the answer is not to keep an account.

Changing your mind

Come back to this page at any time — it is linked in the footer of every public page. Your answer is remembered for six months, after which we will ask again. Clearing your browser's cookies also clears the answer, and in the UK and the EEA you will simply be asked once more.
